How hypnotherapy works.

How hypnotherapy can help with mindset

Hypnotherapy uses guided relaxation, intense concentration, and focused attention to achieve the highly relaxed mental state of hypnosis.  In this deeply relaxed state the mind is ready to learn.

While hypnosis has been in use by different names for hundreds of years, in the past it was shrouded in mystery and widely believed to be just trickery -like magic- by those who practiced it.  It wasn't until the last century, as we began to explore the frontiers of the brain and advance our understanding of cognitive science, that researchers realized hypnosis is grounded in neuroscience. It is not longer a question of does hypnosis work, but rather today research is focused on "how it works"

One of the most interesting aspects of using hypnosis is  how it can change neural pathways.  The longer you do something repeatedly, the more likely you're going to do it out of habit. Every time you experience or think about something the stronger the neural pathway connected to that idea grows. For example, you were bitten by a dog as a child.  As you grew, every time you saw a dog you experienced fear or panic.  This repeated reaction to dogs creates a very neural pathway and causes fear or panic response to dogs.

Neural pathways are not just created in response to fears or phobias.  We can develop strong neural pathways relating to all kinds of things such as anxiety, emotional eating, smoking, nail biting, insomnia etc. Hypnosis can be used to interrupt damaging patterns when they occur. By interrupting the pattern, new neural pathways can form and you no longer respond in a negative way to triggers.

Our mindset is our basic belief system.  It determines how we look at our life. The life experiences we have and the beliefs our parents and family passed down to us determine our mindset.  The more positive those thoughts and beliefs are, the better the outlook we have for our lives. Conversely, negative thought patterns affect our lives negatively.  But we can change these fixed negative beliefs with the help of hypnosis.

Hypnosis is a method in which we can tap into our subconscious mind.  Negative thoughts, habits, and feelings live in your subconscious mind.  One may seem asleep during hypnosis but the mind is hyper-attentive and is highly open to new suggestions while in the state of trance.

Hypnotherapists use this state of suggestibility to replace and reframe the ideas that are holding you back by reframing negative thoughts with positive thoughts.

Some common negative thoughts that people hold are:

I'm not good enough

I can't do it

I can never lose weight

I always mess things up - I'll never get anywhere in life

When it rains, it pours

It's all his/her fault

I can tell people don't like me

I'm nobody special, anybody could do what I do

Hypnotherapy helps to  eliminate these thoughts.  Your new positive set of beliefs will encourage self-confidence,  motivation and personal growth.
